Development and performance evaluation of garlic (Allium sativum) stalk cutter-cum-grader

The manual stalk cutting and grading of garlic (Allium sativum L.) is inconsistent, inefficient demands skilled labour. A cutter-cum-grader was developed at the Department Processing Food Engineering, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, during 2018–19, along with performance evaluation optimization working parameters using response surface methodology. machine comprises four major units, viz. unit, reciprocating assembly a transmission system. indicated that there significant effect feed (2, 3, 4, 5 6 stalks) moisture content (14, 21, 28, 35 42 (±1% in all levels, wet bulb) on parameters. capacity increased rate. efficiency first then decreased content, whereas it an increase bulb damage decrease minimal. rate content. 30.98% 3.75 stalks were found optimal, close to 31% 4 recommended for best machine.
